“God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.” If you spent time in church circles during your youth, you may have seen this sentence in a tract or heard a variation of it in an evangelistic message. Though the statement was meant to be a simplified introduction to the good news about Jesus, my teenaged self heard in those words a promise that God would give me a clearly-marked map that would guide me through all of the perplexing decisions looming before me: What major should I choose? Where should I live? Who should I marry? Should I get fries with my cheeseburger? (Kidding about that last one.)
